Description
Although it never reached the legendary status of the iconic Camel Trophy, the Land Rover G4 Challenge was an impressive and grueling test of skill, endurance, and driving ability.
Launched in 2003, the inaugural event spanned 28 days and took competitors across the United States, South Africa, and Australia. Sixteen nations sent their best drivers to battle for the first-ever G4 title, and for many, it felt like the modern successor to the Camel Trophy.
But the adventure didn’t last. In 2008, facing the realities of the global financial crisis, Land Rover made the difficult decision to cancel the 2009 Challenge—bringing the series to an abrupt end.
Still, the spirit of the competition lives on in vehicles like this 2004 Land Rover Discovery G4 Edition.
Built to capture the essence of the challenge, it offers enthusiasts a rare chance to experience the adventure for themselves—behind the wheel of a machine designed for exactly this kind of journey.
The G4 Challenge edition came from the factory in Tangiers Orange (761), and this example has been refinished.
Features include G4 Edition stickers, front driving lights, a roof rack, a rear-mounted ladder, and taillight cages.
The interior features Black Mogul upholstery, which was unique to the G4 edition, along with white stitching on the seats, color-matched door panels and dash, and a tan headliner with dual sunroofs.
The 4.6-liter V8 is paired with a four-speed automatic transmission and produced 217 horsepower when new. The truck is equipped with a two-speed transfer case with locking center differential, as well as four-wheel electronic traction control.
